Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement made up of around 80,000 members in 132 countries divided into 4 regions. Their aim is to educate, enable and empower women and girls by getting involved in local, national and international activities and advocacy. They aim to raise funds for and awareness of the issues of:
- violence against women
- the importance of sanitation and hygiene
- equal education and employment opportunities
Soroptimist International has a voice in the United Nations with 16 UN representatives advocating on behalf of women and girls in 6 UN centres. Pencils of Promise
Improving the lives of children around the world starts with education and Pencils of Promise have built 342 schools educating 34,000 children since 2009. They provide teacher support and scholarships. In 2015 they built schools in Guatamala, Ghana and Laos. Working with a wide range of partners, 100% of donations go directly to their work.
